Premier League Transfer XI

After another exciting/excruciating final day of the transfer window, here’s a look at possibly the best new signings XI. What do you think?

Jordan Pickford

Despite his best efforts, Pickford was unable to keep Sunderland in the Premier League last season.

Nevertheless, he was the shining light in an otherwise dismal season for the Wearside club and they received a hefty £30 million from Everton earlier this summer when he made the switch to the Merseyside club.

As the third most expensive goalkeeper ever, there’s a lot of pressure on the 23 year old’s shoulders.

But Pickford has already proved he has a sparkling future ahead of him having already made 150 league starts and being included in the England set-up.

Kyle Walker

Spurs fans will say they received well over the odds for Walker but the right back has proved that he is one of the most consistent in the league for the past five seasons at White Hart Lane.

At £45 million, Walker has a lot to live up to but in a City side that will encourage him to utilise that right wing as much as possible, it seems a perfect fit for club and player.

Michael Keane

Keane had an outstanding season at Burnley last year and it was just a case of where he would go in the summer with a handful of top clubs seeking his services.

But despite interest from the likes of Manchester United, who wanted the player to return to his roots, the centre-back decided upon Everton as his favoured destination.

At £30 million, the 24 year old has a lot to live up to but if he continues his impressive form from last season, he’ll be an important player for the Goodison Park side.

Harry Maguire

Much like Pickford, Harry Maguire was the silver lining in a disappointing, relegation-plagued season for Hull City.

Maguire was destined to stay in the Premier League after his impressive season last year, and his preferred destination was a Leicester City team who have signed well this summer.

Given his recent England call-up, it seems the perfect move for Maguire who is certain of game time with a Leicester City team who are looking to make strides this season.

Benjamin Mendy

Manchester City have spent almost £100 million on full-backs alone this summer but much like Kyle Walker, Benjamin Mendy is the perfect fit for their left hand side.

As well as a social media expert, Mendy established himself as a top full back at Monaco last season, in particular in the Champions League against City.

With Gael Clichy and Alexander Kolarov leaving, it was a position that City needed filling and in Mendy they have added one of the most promising attacking defenders around.

Nemanja Matic

This was possibly one of the strangest transfers of the summer, particularly from Chelsea’s point of view.

Sure they have since brought in Tiémoué Bakayoko and Danny Drinkwater, but Matic proved last season that he is one of the best in the league in his position.

Considering how much money has been thrown around this summer, £40 million seems like an absolute steal for Manchester United.

He takes a position that desperately needed filling in that United midfield and has allowed Pogba to have more of an attacking impact so far this season.

Gylfi Sigurdsson

He has been one of the most consistent and effective midfield players in the Premier League for a good few years now, and it was just a question of where he’d end up this summer.

Everton was indeed that preferred destination after a somewhat frustrating summer of negotiations but they finally got their man for a justified £45 million.

Grzegorz Krychowiak

One of the shrewdest signings of the summer was made by West Brom, who secured the services of Polish midfielder Krychowiak on a year-long loan from Paris St. Germain.

The 27 year-old struggled to make an impact at the French side last season, but his midfield qualities have certainly been proven before during his time with Sevilla, particularly in the Europa League final of 2016, when he was part of the side that beat Liverpool in the final.

Mohamed Salah

Salah’s first stint in England didn’t quite go to plan at Chelsea but since returning to the Premier League with Liverpool, he has hit the ground running.

It’s an inspired piece of business from the Anfield team as the Egyptian fits the profile for Liverpool’s attack perfectly.

He has already helped himself to a couple of goals and assists, something he didn’t struggle to find last season with Roma.

At £35 million, Salah seems a bargain signing for the Reds.

Romelu Lukaku

The most expensive Premier League signing of the summer, but it just made sense.

Lukaku was destined for a move to a top club after so many impressive seasons with Everton, and he has hit the ground running since his £90 million move to Old Trafford.

Two goals on his debut against West Ham is surely just a sign of things to come with Lukaku, who adds pace and power to United’s front line with Zlatan to still come back in.

Javier Hernandez

West Ham have faced a torrid start to the season, losing their opening three games but with Hernandez in their ranks, they can guarantee goals as he proved in his first season at Manchester United as well as his time in Germany with Bayer Leverkusen.

It begs the question as to why the Bundesliga side sold him for a small fee of just £16 million given his record.

But with only one goal so far, it will be interesting to see if Hernandez can continue his impressive scoring record.
